Jake’s successful Texas bowhunt took place here, in the very northeast corner of the state. Trust me, this is NOT the type of environment most people envision when Texas whitetail hunting is mentioned. Rather than the brushy, flat, desert type environment typical of South-Texas, this area is open, hilly and boasts an abundance of lush green winter wheat fields.
This was Jake’s first South Dakota whitetail hunt with our good friend, Pat West. But judging by the amount of big buck footage that he and Brach returned with, I seriously doubt it will be his last. And I can’t say that I blame him.
Jake made a great shot on this Kansas 9-pointer, but still had to ‘fish’ the deer out of a nearby river.
Jake hit the rut perfectly in Nebraska, and shot this big 10-pointer on the very first morning of his hunt.
Jake arrowed this 21-inch wide Oklahoma 8 point in early October while hunting with Todd Rodgers from Rut & Strut Guide Service.
Jake made the best of a 40 yard opportunity and tagged this huge-bodied 6 1/2 year old muley.

Jake’s success on that North Dakota buck was the result of having his ground blind set up in the absolute perfect spot. And this is that spot.
This was Jake’s first hunt with my long-time friend, JR Dienst. And as you saw, he was literally overrun with deer—both whitetails and mulies!
