Jeff’s Illinois bowhunt took place in the east-central part of the state, just a short distance from the Indiana border. The terrain in this area could best be described as relatively flat and fairly open, with scattered chunks of heavy timber bordered by crop fields.

Greg used a Knight & Hale Pack Rack call and a Carry-Lite decoy to lure this Illinois buck within bow range.

As any experienced late season hunter knows, setting up near remote feeding areas can dramatically increase their chances for putting a big buck on the ground. And that was exactly the case with Jeff’s Illinois muzzleloader hunt.

That big 6×6 whitetail I arrowed in Illinois a few years back came at the tail end of what had been a very challenging hunt.
