My hunt for that giant Iowa 9-pointer took place in the far western part of the state. As this satellite view shows, the environment here actually is a blend of the two main types of terrain found across much of Iowa.

Greg Miller used his T/C Pro-Hunter to take this nice 10-Point whitetail in the river bottoms of western South Dakota on Thanksgiving Eve, 2009.
Greg used his T/C Pro-Hunter 7mm Mag. to take this great Montana 10-pointer while hunting with Trophies Plus Outfitters in late November.
Greg used a Knight & Hale Pack Rack call and a Carry-Lite decoy to lure this Illinois buck within bow range.
This 5 1/2 year-old Indiana whitetail made the mistake of venturing too close to Greg’s Carry-Lite decoy.
This funky-looking Oklahoma buck showed up in front of Greg on the second evening of his hunt with Rut & Strut Guide Service.
Believe it or not, Greg shot this 6 1/2 year-old South Dakota whitetail over a decoy on Sept. 28th!
The area where I took my monster mule deer is located in northwestern South Dakota. This is a satellite view of that exact area.
My successful Montana gun hunt took place just a few miles west of the small town of Alzada, which is located in the very southeast corner of the state.
As you saw, I was literally covered up with big bucks on my Kentucky bowhunt. The hunt was based out of Game Trails Lodge, which is located here, in the very northwestern part of the state.
I’ve been hunting my buddy Joe Loomis’ farm in western-Iowa for more than 10 years. I’ve taken some great bucks off his property during that time.
That big 6×6 whitetail I arrowed in Illinois a few years back came at the tail end of what had been a very challenging hunt.
I absolutely love to hunt western whitetails. And there’s no one I’d rather hunt the western lands with than my good friend Mike Watkins from Trophies Plus Outfitters.
